When your international flight with Air China is delayed, there is a chance that you’re eligible for a compensation. But because Air China is not a European airline, this applies only to their flights departing from Europe, not to flights leaving from out of Europe and arriving in Europe.
Why can you hope for a compensation in these cases? Because the EU Regulation 261/2004 (EC261 in short) protects your passenger rights. The airline (probably) hasn’t told you about those - few airlines do, especially non-EU airlines.
So next time your flight from Europe with Air China is delayed, take the time to verify whether you’re eligible: you may get up to 600€ from the airline. Just fill out our calculator and you will know in less than 3 minutes what you can hope for!
You might be entitled to up to 600€ from the airline!
The tab below provides specific data regarding the airline's on-time performance. It includes the amount of flights operated by the airline each month, which portion of these flight arrived on time (i.e with less than 15 minutes delay), which portion consists of delayed flights, and the average delay of their flights in minutes. On-time Performance Rating: 1.9/10 Similarly to the two largest airlines in China, China Southern and China Eastern, Air China ranks among the worst airlines for their poor on-time performance. Almost 30% of their flights were delayed in 2018, with an average delay close to 63 minutes. It's worth noting, however, that the airline's performance improved during the last quarter of 2018.
Just like delays, the cancellation of your flight may get you between 250 and 600€. Once again, EC261 protects you when this happens to your flight from Europe with Air China.
Keep in mind that the EU law is slightly more complicated than with delays. The exact amount varies according to more factors, including the length of the delay for example. Also, your eligibility depends on when (or if) the airline warned you about the cancellation.
The easiest option for you is to fill out our Calculator. It will give you a clearer idea of what kind of compensation you can hope for.
We do not have enough data at this time to rate the claim processing performance of Air China.
But since we’re receiving an increasing number of compensation claims with them, this should come soon!
